I'm 25 years old and I've been studying Game Development since 2017, started studying Game Design in 2021 at HKU (Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht), and I dabble in 2D art every now and then as well. Recently I stopped calling myself either a Game Designer, Developer or Artist, but just as someone who makes games, and knows about a lot of different aspects of it!
I mostly use the medium of Games as a way to create simple and fun experiences for the people that play it, but recently I have also expanded towards wanting to create more narrative based experiences as a way of expressing myself on a deeper level.
Since I'm not very good at working on the same type of task due to ADHD, I try to learn about many different aspects of game making, instead of going really deep into one part of it, in a "jack of all trades" way. Some things I'm currently working on:
Learning how to tell a narrative with games
Creating my own 2D art game assets
Becoming fluent in Unreal Engine
Me in a self-made Spider-Punk cosplay
I'm into a lot of different things, and I constantly find new hobbies, drop old ones to then hyper fixate on a new one!
One of my current hobbies is the art of the flow arts, dancing around with LED flower sticks, or an on fire contact staff is very exciting, especially when done with large groups.
Of course, I'm also a gamer, with a particular fondness of building and management games, games like City Skylines, Satisfactory, Shapez and Stardew Valley. Seeing my progress, automating things and creating order out of chaos just scratches a certain itch in me.
I also enjoy games with strong narratives, like Florence, Night in the Woods, Celeste and GRIS. The visual, environmental and narrative storytelling have the opportunity to go deeper than most other forms of media.
